MAIN STAGE COMPETITION

Fancy playing at the Funk & Soul Weekender 2019?

We’ve teamed up with 1BTN Radio to offer the opportunity for some emerging Brighton talent to take on our Main Stage right on Brighton Beach. 

The winning artist will get a 40 minute slot on the Beach stage directly before headline acts, Lee Fields & Kamasi Washington. In addition to this you’ll receive on-going support from national promoters Soundcrash and radio play on 1BTN.

4 Runners-up will also receive radio play and day passes to the festival. 

We’re looking for any type of artists which fit within the genres of Funk, Soul, Jazz, HipHop, World or Latin. You can be a band, a producer, a singer, a rapper or more. 

If you want to be in with a chance, send your best track as a link and/or a video of you performing live (soundcloud/youtube preferred) to competition@funkandsoulweekender.com. 

A shortlist will be announced on 3rd April 2019, and a winner will be selected by a public vote. The winner will be announced on 11th April 2019.

GETTING HERE

How do I get the the festival?

The festival is located on Brighton Beach. The post code for your directions is BN2 1ET.

The closest rail station is Brighton which is within walking distance from the festival site or a very short taxi ride.

Is there parking available?

There is some parking in central Brighton and near Brighton Beach but it is very limited. If you are bringing a car, we recommend parking elsewhere and  taking a bus/ a stroll to the festival site.

What time does the festival run?

The festival runs on all three days. The beach venue is open from 12pm-11pm (timings subject to change). The after-party venues will be open til late.

How many venues are there for the Funk & Soul Weekender?

The main stages will all be on Brighton’s famous beach. Throughout the event, we’ll also be taking over some of the best venues in Brighton and for our official after parties. Check out the map of these venues here. To find out where each artist will perform, watch out for more information closer to the festival.

I need to bring a personal assistant or carer. Can they get a ticket?

No problem! Just send us an email at info@funkandsoulweekender.com and we can sort this out for you.

What is the accessibility like at the venue?

Disabled access at the festival differs from venue to venue. Make sure you’ve contacted the right venue that you are attending.

For the main venue on the beach, a wheelchair ramp and hard-flooring paths ensures this is suitable for wheelchairs.

TICKETS

Where can I buy tickets?

If buying your tickets online, all tickets are available through TicketWeb- That’s the link just up there on the right hand side of this page!

If you’re buying a ticket and accommodation package, these are also available via the link on the top of this page.

If you’re in Brighton, you can also pop into the shop of our partners, Resident Records, to browse their collection and buy tickets in person.

I haven’t received my tickets yet. How do I obtain entry?

Don’t panic! If you haven’t received tickets and you think you should have, make sure you’ve contacted your ticket seller before notifying us. All tickets will be exchanged for wristbands at the wristband exchange.

Can I upgrade my ticket?

You can upgrade any ticket to a VIP or VIP plus ticket right here.

GENERAL

Can children come to the Funk and Soul Weekender?

No. The festival and its venues are all 18+.

I can’t wait for the festival – what can I get up to in the meantime?

As always, our launch party series will continue this year at locations across the country. These parties are hosted in collaboration with the best Funk, Soul & Disco party-starters in the UK, featuring festival favourites and our most exciting partners. Details coming soon!

I can’t come to the festival any more. What do I do? Can I get a refund?

We’ll be sorry to see you go! All ticket sales are non-refundable but Funk & Soul Weekender is so popular you can attempt resale or exchange your ticket with a friend.

What else will I be able to get up to during the festival in addition to all the music?

In a nutshell – loads! We’ve arranged heaps of extra activities for you to get involved with over the weekend, including Disco Yoga, Dance classes, Record Fairs, Screenings, Talks and more. Details coming soon!

Is there food and drink available?

On the festival site, there will be plenty of food & drink facilities to satisfy your cravings in between acts, including soul foods and craft beer bars.
